Alerts: Search, Table of Contents, & Citation Alerts: ScienceDirect (Elsevier)

Use this guide to create auto alerts for your research.

ScienceDirect Personal Accounts

You will need to create a personal account in ScienceDirect to create search alerts. 

To create a ScienceDirect account:

1. Click Register at the top right of the search screen.

2. On the Welcome Screen, enter your email. Click Continue.

3. On the Registration screen, add your name and create a password. Click Register

Search Alerts in ScienceDirect

  1. Sign into your ScienceDirect personal account in order to create search alerts.
     
  2. Conduct your search.
  3. Click Set search alert at the left of the results list. ScienceDirect search results screen
     
  4. Fill in the Save search alert form. Click SaveScienceDirect Save search alert screen
     
  5. You will receive a confirmation that the alert has been saved.

 

Journal/Table of Contents Alerts in ScienceDirect

You will need to be logged in to your ScienceDirect account to create a journal/table of contents alert.   

  1. To create a journal/table of contents alert in ScienceDirect, click Journals & Books from ScienceDirect search page. ScienceDirect search screen

     
  2. From the Browse Journals and Books screen, enter a particular journal title or choose one from the a-z list.ScienceDirect Journal title search screen
     
  3. Click the title of the journal you are interested in. On the resulting page, click Articles & Issues. Click Set up journal alerts from the options displayed under Articles & Issues. Fill out Save journal alert form. Click Save

  4. You will get a confirmation notice that you are following that journal.  Click Close.

RSS Alerts in ScienceDirect

Sign in to your ScienceDirect personal account to create journal/table of contents RSS feeds.

To create an RSS feed for a journal/table of contents alert:

  1. To create a journal/table of contents alert in ScienceDirect, click Journals & Books from ScienceDirect search page. ScienceDirect search screen
  2. From the Browse Journals and Books screen, enter a particular journal title or choose one from the a-z list. ScienceDirect Journal title search screen
     
  3. Click the title of the journal you are interested in. On the resulting page, click Articles & Issues. Click Set up journal alerts from the options displayed under Articles & Issues. Fill out Save journal alert form. Click Save

  4. Click RSS from the options on the menu from Articles and Issues.
     
  5. Copy and paste the URL into RSS reader. ScienceDirect RSS feed alert form
