Laser Cutting and Engraving with Boss LS-1630

The Boss LS-1630 laser, equipped with a 65W CO2 laser tube, uses heat to cut and engrave organic/non-metal materials and mark pretreated metals.

It has:

  • a 15.75" x 29.5 work area
  • table height adjustment up to 8" for taller objects
  • material pass through doors
  • autofocus capability on nonmalleable materials

Available for optional use are:

  • rotary attachment chuck
  • rotary attachment roller
  • honeycomb platform
  • knife blade platform
  • 2" focal lens and cone
  • 4" focal lens and cone

RDWorks is the program used to interface with the Boss LS-1630 and allows the performance of the laser cutting and engraving operations. With it you can draw shapes, lines and curves, insert points and text, as well as import raster and vector graphics.

Refer to Laser Settings For Common Materials for suggested laser settings for known materials or the spreadsheet available at the Library for settings we have found to work well with our system. 

Run test files on any new materials.  

For unlisted materials, they will need to be reviewed for safety and will need to be approved by staff.

Unsafe or unidentified materials are not allowed and include metals, polycarbonate, pvc, and vinyls.
