Periodicals cataloging

  • Periodicals are unclassified journals. There should be one bibliographic record, one item record, and one holding record. The holding record will list LNDL's holdings.
  • Acquisitions puts out new periodicals.
  • Newspapers are received daily, kept for two months then discarded. They are shelved on the first floor. All other journals are shelved on the third floor.
  • Many older periodicals were bound and had barcodes added, resulting in many item records for each bib record. They should be left as is, but newer issues are not barcoded.

Bibliographic record

  • if any new physical journals are acquired, follow the same policy for books to find or create a new bibliographic record via OCLC and export it to Aleph.
