Individual e-book cataloging

  • This is for e-books that are individually purchased by LNDL and are added to the catalog
  • Minimum recommendations for ebook copy-cataloging -- USMAI
  • Acquisitions adds new e-books to spreadsheet (Cataloging and Metadata Services>Workflows>eResourcestoCatalog.xlsm) and emails lndlcat-metadata@loyola.edu

Bibliographic record

  • in Alpeh search ADM Sys. No. in Record Bar/Cataloging Bar to find stub record from acquisitions
  • follow the same steps for physical book cataloging
    • search OCLC Connexion and choose the best record to export
    • if it is already in Aleph, move our item to that record
  • on the full bib record, add 956 field using macro Aleph Individual Eresource 956 ##ebib
    • ​example: 956 40 $u http... $z Access limited to 3 users at a time $3 Proquest $7 LN
  • use macro XPT Set OCLC Holding ##xpty to export our OCLC holdings
    • example: XPT ## $a Y $b LOY

Item record

  • if the bib record is for the EBL DDA program, you will need to create a holding record before creating items
  • in Items tab, under 2. General Information, click on barcode field and use macro Aleph Individual Eresource Item ##eitem

  • click on end of last subfield of 852 field and use macro Aleph Individual Eresource 956 ##ehol​​

Finished cataloging

  • on spreadsheet, write your name and cataloged date
  • email contact to let them know their ebook is available and write "emailed confirmation"
    • use link creator to send link to contact http://loyolanotredamelib.org/proxystringcreator/proxystringcreator.html
