Creating Stable Links to Items in Databases

SAGE Journals

For Sage Journals the url located in you browser bar is the permalink.

Add the library's proxy prefix to the URL to enable access from both on and off campus.

Library prefix: http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=

The resulting URL should look like http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0961000614532484

You can also paste the link into the LNDL Link Creator to automatically have the appropriate link created for you.

ScienceDirect

  4. The resulting URL should look like http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=https://doi.org/10.1016/j.acalib.2017.03.006
  5. You can also paste the link into the LNDL Link Creator to automatically have the appropriate link created for you.

Springer

  1. For ScienceDirect the URL in your browser window is a permalink.
  2. Add the library's proxy prefix to the URL to enable access from both on and off campus.
  3. Library prefix: http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=

Web of Science

  1. Locate the DOI listed under the title for the article inside the Web of Science database.
  2. You will need to add two prefixes to the listed DOI in order to make it work properly.
  3. First you need to add the library's proxy information which will authenticate you as someone whose library subscribes to this journal. If you do not add this prefix anyone trying to access the article from off-campus will not be able to do so.
  4. Library prefix:  http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=
  5. Then you will need to add the prefix for the DOI proxy server, which will direct the given DOI to the proper location to access the article.
  6. DOI prefix: http://dx.doi.org/
  7. So the full url for the article located in the example below would be:
  8.  http://proxy-ln.researchport.umd.edu/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/0144929X.2016.1272635
