LNDL: Communication and Reporting

A centralized location for group contact information, procedures and reporting forms for LNDL staff to use to alert the appropriate department to these issues.

Style Guide

Referring to the Universities

The first time you refer to one of the universities or the library on a single web page, write out the full name. For the rest of the page, follow these conventions:

  • Use Loyola for Loyola University Maryland
  • Use Notre Dame for Notre Dame of Maryland University
  • If appropriate, collectively refer to Loyola and Notre Dame as the Universities

Name of the Library

  • Use: Loyola Notre Dame Library, then LNDL or the Library
  • Do not use: Loyola-Notre Dame Library, Loyola/Notre Dame Library or LND Library
  • NOTE: use the library (not capitalized) when referring to a generic library

Library Levels/Floors

Use:

  • Lower Level
  • First Level
  • Second Level
  • Third Level

Do not use: 

  • 1st Floor, Main Level 

Library Spaces

For the name of library spaces, please reference the Available Spaces webpage. 

  • When referring to spaces with names in dedication of individuals (e.g. Furgeson Gallery) please use the full name, and then the shortened name after (e.g. Gallery) 
  • Some important examples:
    • IDEA Space
      • Do not use: idea space or Idea Space 
    • Ridley Auditorium 
    • Help Desk
      • Do not use: help desk or Helpdesk

Library Technology 

  • Makerspace vs. Innovation Station
    • Use: The Innovation Station, then the makerspace 
    • Do not use: maker space, Makerspace 
  • Educational Technology 
    • Use: Educational Technology (for the category), direct name of the technology (for an individual item)
    • Do not use: Ed Tech 
  • Pop-Up Classes
    • Use: Pop-Up Classes 
    • Do not use: Pop Up Classes, pop-up classes  

Unit vs. Department 

  • Use: Department for RTC 
  • Use: Unit for Archives, Access Services, Collections, Reference & Instruction, Technology Services 
  • Do not use: the two terms interchangeably 

Committee, Task Force, Team, or Working Group

Research & Learning Program 

  • Use: Research & Learning Program 

  • Do not use: Teaching & Learning Program, Literacies Program, Research & Instruction Program 

Logo/Email Signature

Acronyms 

  • Use: Full term first with acronym in parentheses, then use acronym thereafter (ex. Research, Technology, Collections Department (RTC)) 
  • Do not use: Do not refer to the acronym without defining it first
