Resources for Community-Engaged Learning and Scholarship

Welcome to the Community-Engaged Learning and Scholarship resource guide! According to Loyola University Maryland's Center for Community, Service, and Justice, community-engaged learning (also known as service learning) "is a collaboration between students and community members in order to learn from one another and build knowledge together. Students use their skills and course knowledge to support a local organization achieve their goals. In turn, the experiences students have outside the classroom enhance the learning that they are doing in class." 

Similarly, Notre Dame of Maryland University defines service learning "as working and problem-solving real world issues alongside community members. These interactions provide rich, experiential learning opportunities when coupled with guided reflection, class discussion, and skilled analysis relating to course content."
