Publication Agreements and Open Access Publishing

Will the Library pay for my Article Processing Charge (APC)?

The library has entered into what are known as transformative agreements with some publishers. In addition to covering the subscription costs the library would pay to provide access for our users to read the content, these agreements also allow qualified users from Loyola and Notre Dame to publish open access without paying any article processing charges.

Association of Computing Machinery

Cambridge University Press Agreement

  • Allows faculty to publish in over 300 Cambridge University Press journals in a Gold OA format without having to pay an article processing charge.
  • Visit Publishing Open Access with Cambridge University Press for general information about publishing open access.
  • Visit Open Access Waivers and Discounts and enter Loyola Notre Dame Library as the institution to see specifics on what journals the Library's agreement covers and specific information about to proceed through the OA publishing process.

Elsevier

  • Allows faculty to publish in 1800+ Elsevier Hybrid journals (fully OA journals are not included in the agreement) without having to pay an article processing charge.
  • The agreement is made between Lyrasis and its member libraries and provides a limited number of OA articles across all participating institutions on a first come, first served basis.
  • Authors must submit under Loyola Notre Dame Library rather than Loyola University Maryland or Notre Dame of Maryland to take advantage of the agreement.
  • For more information on the agreement and publishing process visit the Agreement between Lyrasis and Elsevier FAQ or the Elsevier Open Access Hub.

Oxford University Press

  • Authors can publish for free in over 500 open access and hybrid open access titles.
  • Visit Oxford's site on Read and Publish agreements for more information including a list of eligible journals.
