MUIH Welcome Guide

Welcome

Welcome to the Loyola Notre Dame Library. On the following pages, you will see subject resource lists, databases, ebooks, and journals that are available for you to use. This is a living guide intended to assist faculty and students through the transition to the Notre Dame of Maryland University Community. Please check back often for updates and further information, and please reach out to us through the Ask A Librarian box on each page of this guide.

Borrowing from LNDL/USMAI

Current Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University faculty, staff and students can borrow books and media from Loyola Notre Dame Library and the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI). There is an exception for reference books, some special collections, and media.

Patrons can request delivery by mail if they are a distance learning student located at least 30 miles from the nearest USMAI library. Patrons interested in receiving items via mail, should contact the Help Desk or Zach Gahs-Buccheri at zgahsbuccheri@loyola.edu or 410-617-6826.

Returning Materials

Patrons can contact Zach Gahs-Buccheri to receive a return shipping label. LNDL is not responsible for any fines or fees resulting from late or lost mail.

Placing Holds for Materials Already Checked Out

If you need an item already checked out by another borrower, you can request the item through the catalog, which will initiate a recall process. When the current borrower returns the item, it will be placed on hold for you.

Items you check out may be requested by another borrower. When this process is initiated, a notice with the new due date is sent and you will be asked to return the item to the library.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that enables patrons affiliated with Loyola University and Notre Dame of Maryland University to request materials not owned by the Loyola Notre Dame Library.

  • Fines of $5 per day up to the price of the equipment will be enforced if equipment is returned late.

Items borrowed from USMAI libraries:
  • Fines are accrued if materials are not returned or renewed by their due date
  • Fees may apply for lost or damaged items
  • Fines and fees are owed to the lending library
    • Borrowers will receive an email with instructions to pay the institution that owns the material. If borrowers do not provide an email address, a letter will be mailed.
    • If you have returned USMAI items late and have not received a bill from the lending library, contact that library (see USMAI Libraries tab) to confirm that you do not owe fines or fees.
    • Notices are sent as a courtesy. Failure to get a notice does not change the obligation of the borrower to return or renew the material on time. The borrower is responsible for updating their contact information.
    • Unpaid fines or fees are turned over to the State of Maryland’s Central Collection Unit, which may refer the debt to an outside collection service.
