Finding Books in OneSearch

OneSearch will show you the following types of books:

  • Books in print (hard copy) at LNDL
  • Ebooks owned by LNDL
  • Books in print at other USMAI consortium libraries

Note: We cannot borrow ebooks from other libraries. USMAI borrowing is for print books only. You may see ebook results that we do not own in OneSearch. We can help you request print versions of those books!

Example of a print book result at LNDL:

Requesting USMAI Books in OneSearch

The process for requesting a print book from another USMAI library is similar to putting an LNDL book on hold.

1. Click on the book title from the OneSearch results list.

2. Click “Sign In” on the yellow banner under “How to get it” if you are not already signed into OneSearch.

3. Log in with your Loyola or Notre Dame email username and password.

4. Click “Request from USMAI” under “How to get it.”

5. When the Request form pops up, confirm that your pickup location is “Loyola-Notre Dame Library (LNDL)” (the default).

6. The “Not Needed After” field is optional. Entering a date here will automatically cancel the request after that date has passed.

7. Click “SEND REQUEST” at the bottom of the form.

8. You will receive an email with instructions when the book is ready to be picked up from LNDL. USMAI books typically take 1-3 business days to arrive.

Citation Style Guides

Finding Journals in OneSearch

When searching for a specific journal:

  • Locate the journal title in the citation you are trying to find
  • Choose "Journal Search" from the menu across the top and search by journal title, not article title, in the search box to see if we have access

  • OneSearch shows all the possible results, pay attention to the date range

  • Click on the link for full text access (pay attention to the date of the article; sometimes there are multiple links with multiple date ranges)

  • Some journals give you the option to "Search within Publication" which you can use to search for the article title;
  • If there is no search option, use the drill down method:
    • First select the date
    • Then select the volume
    • Finally select the issue
    • Scroll through the articles until you find the one you are looking for.

How Do I Find the Full Text?

After completing your search for articles in one of the library's databases, you'll see several options for accessing the full text. View this guide for help with accessing the full text of an article.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that enables patrons affiliated with Loyola University and Notre Dame of Maryland University to request materials not owned by the Loyola/Notre Dame Library.
